Thoughts on using a fancy mechanical, programmable keyboard.
I have had an Ergodox EZ collecting dust on my desk since I bought it years ago. I knew that the switch the using an ortholinear keyboard and rebuilding muscle memory for common key-chords was going to be a painful process, so despite what had been my hope when I bought it, I just didn't bother with it.
At least -- not until recently.
A couple months ago I finally bit the bullet and made the switch. It was not easy to get used to a new keyboard. But it has been worth it. Here are some of the benefits I have enjoyed by enduring the initial unpleasantness:
- Skill Building
- Reignite excitement for new gadgets
- Less risk of injury
- Tactile clickity-clacky sounds
- Easy changes to keyboard layout to try new things.
- Distraction from other unpleasantries
